Oriental Varieties:
"Turkish Tobacco"
Grown and (usually) sun-cured for cigarette blending with flue-cured and burley.  Also widely used in pipe tobacco blends.  Full-bodied and aromatic.
Sun-Curing is performed on racks placed outside in the sunshine for set daily periods.
Specialized local curing techniques are sometimes used.
Storage is in bales and then allowed to ferment.  After storage, moisture is added.
'Latakia' is fire-cured with (local) middle-eastern hardwoods and aromatic shrubs.
'Perique' is one of the most strongly flavored tobaccos.  Grown in Saint James Parish, Louisiana, the leaves are rolled into "torquettes" and kept under pressure after being air-cured in barns.
